读者 Pauline Chan 来电邮问：notwithstanding 和 despite 的用法有什么不同？
Notwithstanding和 despite 用中文说出来都是尽管、不管、虽然等，但despite只可以当前置词用，而notwithstanding 又是前置词又是副词。
例如下面一句：
Despite his busy schedule, he always finds the time to see his girlfriend. 尽管他的工作很忙，他一定会找出时间去见女朋友。
在这里，despite 可以用notwithstanding 代替：
Notwithstanding his busy schedule, he always finds the time to see his girlfriend .
而且，notwithstanding 可以放在断句的后面，而despite 却不可：
His busy schedule notwithstanding, he always finds the time to see his girlfriend.
还有一点需要注意，因为 notwithstanding 和despite 都是前置词， 短句一定要以名词（his busy schedule）写出来。 否则，像下面的句子就文法不通：
Despite/Notwithstanding he is very busy, he always finds the time to see his girlfriend.
