If you describe someone as narrow-minded,you are criticizing them because they are unwilling to consider new ideas orother people's opinions.

相对于narrow-minded 的就是open-minded，形容心胸宽大，凡事都很看得开，也可以指一个人没有先入为主的观念,能够接受别人的意见。
记得有一次考试时教授就对我们说：You have to be open-minded. 就是说“你们不要有先入为主的观念，不要太去钻牛角尖（splitting hairs），这样才能考得好”。
